From an ultra-smooth ponytail to tidying up the whole length to light curls that can dress up a mid-length bob, two hairdressers who are as fashionable as they are talented give FAB their professional secrets on how they make these styles using ghd hairdryers and other essential accessories like L’Oréal Professionnel’s Steampod straightener. First, there’s Delphine Courteille, a mainstay at Paris Fashion Week and a hairstyling expert in her salon, taking inspiration from the runways. Then, there’s London-based Adam Reed, who does the hair of fashion and beauty icons all over the world. Here’s what they had to say to us.

FAB: Which hairstyles are trending this season, and how do you do them?

Delphine Courteille: Light, soft curls are very much in style, and I’m a big fan of the ghd Curve Creative Curl Wand ®. I recommend this to my clients who like my wavy looks that I only do during Fashion Week. This trendy wave, which isn’t too much or too little, is ideal with mid-length or short bobs.

Adam Reed: Continuing from last season’s obsession with curls, AW17 is big on texture, with ’80s-inspired looks taking centre stage on the catwalks. There’s texture and crimping, and also undulation is definitely back, but not as you know it; it’s now a lot softer and more subtle than it used to be, and it’s certainly more wearable. In the salon, I use ghd Curve Creative Curl Wand ®.

FAB: What do you use to twist a whole length of hair?

D.C.: I like crimping just a few sections of hair like an accessory, not with all the hair, with the new ghd Contour, which is a crimping iron.

A.R.: There are plenty of styles to consider. Whether you want to create a super straight do, beachy waves or glamorous curls, twisting the styler in the correct way and correct angles can create all of these looks… and many more.

FAB: What do you do for clients who want smooth hair?

D.C.: I like getting ultra-smooth results using the Steampod, a steam straightener from L’Oréal Professionnel and Rowenta Salon. It’s also perfect for straightening Afro-type hair. I’m a big fan of extra-extra-large ultra-smooth ponytails. During Fashion Week, I did the hair of a few models with these XXL ultra-smooth ponytails and some baby-hair looks that show on the forehead, for the Rahul Mishra fashion show for the SS18 collection. I also like super-smooth XXL long hair like Kim Kardashian’s.

FAB: How can you get great hair at home like you do in the salon?

A.R.: The ghd Air® Hairdryer gives you the perfect flow of air when drying to create a stunning looseness and natural fullness like no other. Lock your finished style in place with a blast of cold air using the ‘cool shot button’ – cool air is much better for your scalp and also helps to set the finished look in place. For professionals in salon the ghd Air gives every stylist the ability to easily perfect hair.

Whether you want smooth or wavy hair, in the salon, your hairstylist has the perfect knowledge, flair and equipment to satisfy you. So let your imagination and desires run wild!
