Scotty Cunha, the hairstylist chosen by Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie, reveals the secrets of his successful career and of his Instagram account, which is followed by over 350,000 fans. He’s living the American dream…
Born in Rhode Island, at a young age Scotty discovered he had an artistic character and soon dropped out of high school to attend hairdressing classes. “I always loved the West Coast and palm trees, and I wanted to become a great hairstylist. I always knew I had to live in Los Angeles,” remembers the hairdresser. He moved after his studies aged 19 and took a job at Starbucks while he waited for his hairdressing license. After a stint as a receptionist at a Beverly Hills salon, and then as an assistant, he contacted his hairstylist idol Andy Lecompte and gained a job at his salon. “This opportunity changed my life,” says Scotty. “Today, seven years later, I’m still there.”
Dancing With The Stars
At the Andy Lecompte salon, Scotty met Miley Cyrus and went off touring with her for a year. Through her, he met the agent Kent Belden who decided to represent him; Kent introduced Scotty to the Kardashian sisters. His first gig for them? Kim Kardashian for Fabulous magazine. At the studio, the star was actually already ready for the shoot, so instead Scotty styled Kourtney for the cover. “Kourtney was so adorable and she’s still my first client!” He then styled Kim for a lingerie series, and later all the sisters for the family reality show, “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”.
With their dark, thick, silky manes, the Kardashians have established a sensual and glamorous public image. Their fans delight at their sexy styles on television, on Instagram and in glossy magazines. Perfectly polished or deconstructed buns, gradual blondes or platinum tones, waves or pin-straight styles… the sirens transform their look everyday, always true to their alluring signature. “The sisters love taking risks in terms of hair and fashion,“ explains Scotty. “They really trust their team, and we have so much fun with looks and ideas. It’s really great to create looks as a team!“

Hatted, flaunting tight shirts and artfully distressed denims, tanned in a speedo at the beach or suited at a party, Scotty shows off his fabulous lifestyle on his popular Instagram account. He also displays his latest styles – the blonde blob for Sofia Richie for Complex magazine’s cover, the bun created for Kristin Cavallari and the sultry hairstyles of the Kardashians. His approach? To create a personal diary of his life with the stars. “I love hair, fashion and travel,” he explains, “so I try to show everything. I think people love discovering the real life of a personality. I try to always be as real as possible.”
Words of wisdom from a rising star.
