A brand new hairdryer, the Supersonic by Dyson, has become the hottest property for the coolest hairdressers. FAB met Parisian hairdressers from Cut By Fred salon and Jérôme Guézou from Angel Studio; they are some of the hair stylists who’ve loved getting to grips with this salon gamechanger.

“It Changes The Hairdrying Experience”

“I’ve been using the Dyson Supersonic for six months in my salon. It’s very nice to use, and it changes the hairdrying experience,” says Fred, hairdresser at the Cut by Fred studio. “It makes less noise and dries much more quickly. The hair has absolutely no static and even turns shiny. Also, there’s a difference with the weight: the Dyson is lighter and easier to handle. My wrist doesn’t hurt anymore!” Indeed, after vacuum cleaners, fans, heaters and other accessories, the British brand has used its expertise and technology to tackle hairstyling, and has developed a truly revolutionary hair-dryer.

A Hairdryer Designed From Scratch

The basic shape of the hairdryer hasn’t really changed since the 1960s. Starting from this observation, James Dyson, the eponymous inventor of this leading brand, took on the task of completely, or almost completely, redesigning one of the hairdresser’s most fundamental tools. He needed almost 50 months of research, design and development at the hair laboratory created by Dyson to come up with this new hairdryer design, and in all tested it out on 1,600 kilometers of hair! Featuring a temperature regulator, the hairdryer protects hair from damage caused by too much heat. Whereas traditional hairdryers expose hair to temperatures that exceed 150°C, the Dyson Supersonic constantly adjusts the heat it blows out using a thermal sensor. This controlled temperature protects the hair. Since it’s less damaged, it reflects light and has a shiny appearance. Thanks to this technology, the airflow is amplified three times and the drying process is quicker. Also, while other hairdryers put the motor above the handle, which can cause wrist pain, Dyson put the motor in the handle of the machine itself. Although it’s powerful, Dyson has fine-tuned it to produce inaudible sound frequencies. The design is different, so the device is smaller and its balance is ideal. Furthermore, the accessories (smoothing nozzle, styling concentrator and the diffuser) are magnetic and remain cold to the touch.

Light And Less Noisy

At La Nuit de la Coiffure in June in Paris, 100 hairdressers gathered in the salon of Paris Town Hall to do the cuts of many lucky women. As a worldwide exclusive, they get the chance to experience the new Dyson Supersonic before the official launch. “That evening, we were really surprised,” says Jérôme Guézou from the Angel Studio salon in Paris. “I’ve been hairstyling for 30 years and I’ve really seen tons of gadget come out, but the Dyson is really unique! It’s ultra-light and really less noisy. You can finally talk while you dry hair without shouting. The weight is well distributed, and I have no more wrist pain. The heat is self-adjusting and the airflow itself works really well,” says the L’Oréal Professionnel ambassador excitedly.

“The classic hair-dyer seems to be prehistoric. As a hairdresser, I’ll never look back,” says Fred. This new hairdryer seems to have won over the professionals in the industry, and could very well be just what millions of women are looking for who are fed up with the noise they constantly make in their bathrooms everyday!
