At the edge of New York City’s FiDi (the Financial District) and TriBeCa, in a quaint industrial-style space, the new MB45 salon treats overbooked ladies to a manucure and blow dry in less than 45 minutes. FAB went and got glammed up.

Busy Business Women
In a tiny Downtown salon, among the buzz of hairdryers and vapors of nail polish and hairspray, a sexy soundtrack, glass of wine and Brazilian cheese puffs await busy guests for a beauty pause. At the shampoo sink, the manicure gets started. Less than 45 minutes later, we come out refreshed, coiffed, polished, and ready for a major presentation, date or gala night. It’s as simple as relaxing – a concept imported from the beauty rituals of Brazilians, who always look perfect, and Cariocas’s laid-back sex appeal.

Fernanda Lacerda and Manuela Giannini, both from Brazil, have known each other for 10 years. For a decade, Manuela was a regular at Fernanda’s SoHo beauty hotspot, Maria Bonita. A destination for Victoria’s Secret top models and other celebrities, it offers full-body luxury treatments: hair masks, cuts, colors, facials, massages and, of course, a Brazilian wax (and the trendy ‘bikini facial’ for that special beach holiday). For her busiest guests, Fernanda proposed manicures with other treatments – a very popular combination. Last year, Fernanda partnered up with Manuela and launched the new MB45 concept (standing for Maria Bonita and 45 minutes) for the busiest New Yorkers, with a first storefront Downtown. “I live Downtown and I love this area,” explains Manuela, a decorator and graduate of New York’s Parsons School of Design. “The industrial décor is a reflection of the city’s energy, where everyone can dress as they like and express themselves freely; it’s a festive atmosphere.”
As the Financial District develops into a major business hub with the opening of the Condé Nast or American Express offices, a whole new moneyed, sharp, elegant crowd is on the lookout for quality spots that get the job done. At MB45, they have surely found what they need, plus an extra touch of tropical fun.
